aluminium engineering center Aachen

Since 2011, the Department of Anthropogenic Material Cycles is a member of the aluminum engineering centre Aachen, short aec. Thus, within the processing chain of aluminum it is interdisciplinary linked with processing, production and material scientists of both the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Within this framework, our knowledge of the “upstream chain” can continuously be verified and optimized, where dry waste streams are treated in order to enrich valuable materials into metallurgically usable materials.

In cooperation with RWTH International Academy and the Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie, short GDA, the aec annually hosts the training workshop “Introduction to Aluminum Technologies". The workshop, in particular, discusses the fundamentals of aluminum production, converting, application and processing. After covering metallurgical basics, the whole process chain, from aluminum production, examination by “Fallturm”-testing to recovery opportunities of aluminum from mixed waste is being covered by alternating lecture and practical exercise.
