  • Overview of the processing methods in waste composting
  • Overview of the processing methods in waste fermentation (dry and wet)
  • Qualitative requirements on the pre-conditioning before biological treatment
  • Technical solutions for mechanical pre-treatment/ conditioning
  • Transferring organic matter into a liquid phase of raw waste by pressing/ percolation
  • Hygienic and legal requirements on products of fermentation/ composting
  • Combination of anaerobic and aerobic treatment, full flux-/ part flux fermentation
  • Mass and energy balance of mono- and combined processes
  • Use of biological waste treatment products (solid/ liquid fermentation residue, composts, ”stabilat”)
  • Cost calculation for biological treatment plants on the basis of realized projects

Contents of tutorial:

  • Design calculation for biological treatment plants (biological- and residual waste)
  • Balance calculation for biological treatment plants
  • Cost calculation for biological treatment plants

Learning objectives:

  • Knowledge of most important methods for the biological treatment of waste and legal and substance-related restrictions
  • Ability to calculate processes which includes establishing the essential design parameters and the operating costs
  • Ability to evaluate processes considering economic and ecologic aspects
